Here’s what’s happening at the Textpattern Plugin Directory.

Adopt orphaned plugins

Please help us keep Textpattern Resources current and as useful as possible by repairing links or helping to adopt orphaned plugins.

The list of orphaned plugins is growing. Some plugins/resources will become irreparably orphaned and that’s a fact of life; but so many others still have functional value and are sorely missed by visitors to the site, finding that the exact plugin/functionality they need has been sadly orphaned and is unattainable.

Plugins/tutorials/files get lost or orphaned when an author stops offering the plugin on their site or links are changed or otherwise broken without their corresponding articles on Textpattern.org being corrected.

If you are able to get in touch with the original author, are aware of new links, or have a copy of the lost information, please either ask the author to update their respective articles, volunteer to be an editor on the site and update the information directly, or send the information to the admin and the articles will get updated accordingly.

Files can be happily hosted directly at Textpattern.org. If you have or can locate copies of orphaned plugin files, send them our way or contact us about hosting your files (orphaned or not) so they will not be lost again.

Please send files or information to the admin via email us or the contact form. (Please be sure to say something human-like, otherwise your message is likely to be lost to the spam folder.)

Flag articles for Admin’s attention

In the interest of identifying outdated or incorrect information, broken links, etc., a “flag it“ option now accompanies each article, for bringing it to admin’s attention for archiving. Thanks for the nudge, Mary.

Besides simply identifying all the defunct articles with broken links and orphaned plugins, please help provide updated information or rescue some plugins by contributing a copy of the plugin file, and/or providing the name of the new plugin or built-in tag that envelops its functionality.

Getting organized

  • Keywords and “Helpful” ratings added to article pages.
  • Short list of currently rated Most Helpful articles on front page.
  • Lists of archived articles, orphaned plugins added.
  • Working on identifying orphaned plugins/files.

Operation: site organization

Lots done this weekend, lots more to do..
Main items on the Pending list involve repairing or removing broken links and collecting orphaned plugins. You (anyone reading this) can help by pointing out articles that need repair — but if you could include a correct link or the plugin code/file to repair with, that would be a great help.

Will also be “archiving” those articles/plugins that have become outdated due to new built-in txp tags or for other reasons. There’s a bit more about that in the help. It’s nothing dramatic; just a practical feature to point out updated alternatives for some of the older and possibly antiquated (but still appreciated) mods/tips/plugins/etc. Please point out instances that should be archived (and please include a link to the successor/replacement).

If you’re interested in helping more directly on the admin side, please drop a note to the admin (admin at textpattern.org or contact form).
